How persuasive storytelling meets social purpose
Whether it’s the success of projects like Wonder Woman and Star Wars: The Last Jedi that were led by strong female protagonists or Crazy Rich Asians that represented the rom-com genre in a new all-Asian-American flavor, or the power and effectiveness of advertising campaigns like Always’ “Like a Girl” and State Street’s “Fearless Girl,” there is a new set of standards for incorporating social purpose in brands and franchises of all kinds.
On October 3, 2018,during the world's largest advertising festival, Advertising Week NYC, we gathered personalities, professionals and thought leaders from media, entertainment, advertising, global brands and NGOs who examined how we are recreating storytelling in the age of #MeToo and #TimesUp. The event was an interactive experience with leading voices in the areas of film-making, advertising, storytelling and creativity as we identify and codify the further steps we need to take toward gender equity in advertising, storytelling and beyond.
Where did it start?
EQUITY begins with stories - those who tell them and importantly those who hear them. Our inaugural event at Advertising Week NYC on Oct 3 was a visceral, artistically provocative experience on the state of Gender Equality within 2 of the most influential (and influenced) industries in our culture: the TV & Movie industry and the Advertising industry.
